Arrivals
We have great pleasure in being able to announce the arrival of Elder William Burridge, per steamship City of London, on the 25th July, and on the 26th, per steamship Manhattan, of Elders Karl G. Maeser, Heber Young, Marcus Holling, Willard B. Richards, Octavo Ursenbach, Frank H. Hyde, Nephi Pratt, Levi W. Richards, James Sharp, John R. Clawson, Joel Grover, John S. Lewis, Almon Robinson, William Homer, Lewis W. Shurtleff, Josiah F. Gibbs, James Jensen, Christian D. Fjelsted, James H. Johnson, Samuel Pedersen, George Reese, Morten Mortenson, Ole C. olsen, and Arne Christianson, who left New York on the 13th ult.
These brethren have been mercifully preserved from all the danger and harm by which their journey has been beset, are in excellent health and spirits, and feel ambitious for the work to which they are called. We commend them to the kindliest considerations of the Saints wherever they may labor, and hope they may be instrumental not only of strengthening the Church, but greatly extending the Gospel to the world.

New York, July 10, 1867
President F.D. Richards.
Dear Brother,
I was requested by brother Anderson to forward you the enclosed. The Saints arrived, as you will see by his letter, on the “glorious” 4th of July. We landed them as early as possible on the morning of the 5th, and registered passengers, weighed luggage, and got them off on the magnificent steamer Saint John for Albany, at 6 p.m., en route for Omaha. Quick work; but we had the plans laid for a speedy disembarkation, and with a deal of labor we accomplished it.
We only had 51,325 lbs. of luggage, including brother B.Y.’s and J.W.’s goods, which I had arranged for previous to their arrival, so that nothing was opened, not even a box or a trunk. Brother Brighham, Jun., and family, John W., and brother Spencer, arrived safely yesterday at the Saint Nicholas Hotel. Hot weather, and shirt collars “falling rapidly.” I heard from the company at Suspension Bridge, Niagara—all well, and going on finely. The railway agents favored our emigration very much, and thus far have carried out every agreement that I made with them. The Lord has wonderfully and signally blessed me in the work I so much dreaded to undertake—this matter of emigration.
Be pleased to give my kind love to brother Penrose, and say to brother Preston that I shall feel “hugely” obliged to him if once in a while he will send me 3 or 4 Stars to Parowan. I miss the Star very much.
Brother Pratt, Watt, and Felt, are with us, and wish to be remembered; also brother Nephi Pratt, a missionary to England, who sails in the Manhattan next Saturday, with several others, and son-in-law of mind, desires to be remembered. Be kind to him, and give him good advice, he is Parley’s son. Little Johnny Robinson was well a few days ago since; he is at Omaha with Oscar and Bishop Smith. The brethren one and all are well, and sister Young and the children look finely. News from the Valley quite meager. Indians better and more peaceable.
Yours with great respect,
W.S. Warren

A conference was held at Bristol, England of which the following brief account was published in the Millennial Star:
The Bristol Conference was held at 10, King-street, Queen-square, Bristol, on Sunday Oct. 13th. Elders George W. Burridge and Josiah F. Gibbs reported their fields of labor: the Saints felt well, but the people of the world generally were indifferent to the Gospel. Elder Frederick C. Anderson, President of the Conference, read the reports, and made some remarks encouraging the brethren in their labors. Elder Francis A. Brown, President of the Holland Mission, made some remarks upon the difference between the servants of God and the ministers of the world. Set forth the apostasy that had taken place from the Church established by Christ and his Apostles, and the reestablishment of the true Church in this day of the world. In the afternoon, Elder Elias Morris related his experience in the Church, and spoke of the progress made by the people in Utah since he emigrated to that place in 1854, and bore testimony of the Prophet Brigham Young. Elders Barry Wride and Nephi Pratt bore their testimony to the truth of the Gospel as preached by the Elders of this Church. In the evening Elders F.C. Anderson, F.A. Brown, and Joseph Lawson, addressed a large audience, who listened with great attention, upon the rise and progress of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Departures
A company of 209 souls of the Saints, 87 of them from the Swiss and German Mission, and the rest from this country, left this port, on the steamship Manhattan, Captain Fotayth, July 13, for New York, on their way to the Territory of Utah. In addition to that number, and on the same vessel, were the following returning missionaries—Elders Karl G. Maeser, Lewis W. Shurtliff, Winslow Farr, Josiah M. Ferrin, Nephi Pratt, Geo. H. Knowlden, Howard O. Spencer, Thomas Richardson, Joseph S. Richards, Levi Garrett, John Tuddenham, Samuel M. Price, Wm. H. Pidcock, H.B. Clemons, Thomas Rodgers, Charles Shumway, jun., and Lewis M. Grant. Elder Maeser presided over the company.
Those Elders have been laboring faithfully in the European Mission during periods ranging from nearly one to about three years, Elders Maeser and Grant in the Swiss and German portion of the vineyard, and the other Elders in this country. According to their faithfulness they return with joy and with the blessing of the Lord and the Saints upon their heads. The Elders and the whole company left in excellent spirits, with the hope and prospect of a speedy arrival at their much cherished mountain home. We wish them a safe and pleasant passage….

…In our visitings in the conferences we have been received by the various presidents with great kindness. They have taken every pains to answer all our questions and walk or ride with us, as the case might be, to our appointments, or to visit the Saints or the places of public resort, and I am happy to say that these presidents, all that we have seen, and the elders who are laboring with them, are straightforward, upright and virtuous men, and, as a general thing, as the saying is, anyone might tie to them with safety. We have not seen all the elders and presidents yet, and probably shall not, but we shall take another tour, visiting three or four conferences, before we leave for home.
Of the missionaries who are laboring in this field, the following we have visited, more or less: Elders Wm. W. Taylor (Manchester), Lot Smith (Birmingham), Lewis Shurtliff and Geo. Romney, his successor (London), George H. Peterson, and George Groo (Nottingham), Frank Hy. Hyde and Geo. G. Bywater, his successor (Sheffield), Andrew Shumway (Liverpool). These with Elders Levi Garrett, George H. Knowlden, C. Shumway, jr., W.H. Pidcock, Thos. Richardson, S.M. Price, Nephi Pratt, Thos. Rodgers, M.B. Shipp, A. Dewey, S. Taylor, R.E. Noslen, John Tuddenham, W. Farr, J.M. Ferrlo, H.O. Spencer, J.S. Richards, H.R. Clemens, Karl O. Maeser, Lewis M. Grant, Bishop David Brinton, and any others whom I have seen and may not remember, I can with confidence affirm, so far as my knowledge extends, have honored their ministry and mission in the respective places and callings, according to the ability which the Lord has given them….

Grant reached this city yesterday afternoon, in company with the first arrival of Saints from Europe. Other brethren, we understand, crossed the ocean on the same ship, but stayed back to visit friends in the States. The company numbered 260 persons, and left Liverpool on the 13th of July. There were two births and one death while crossing the Atlantic, and one death while en route from Omaha to the terminus.

Editor News—I wrote this morning, too late I fear for today’s mail; but my mind is so much occupied with tithing, telegraph, and other matters….
Today we reached this place via Levan and over a new road from that place to the Sevier bridge, lying quite a distance east but parallel with the old Washboard road….
Meeting at 7 p.m. at this place. Elders Nephi Pratt, R.T. Burton and B. Young Jun., spoke very encouragingly, giving much practical instruction….
Respectfully, etc.,
