Elder Parley P. Pratt held a discussion in the Mercantile Library, San Francisco, California, on the subject, “Is it expedient for the government to appoint Brigham Young or any other Mormon governor of Utah?”  The room was filled with lawyers, priests, editors, merchants, etc.  At the close a vote was called and one third of the audience voted for the reappointment of Brigham Young.
