Utah Pioneer, Matron 82, Dies In Idaho
Mrs. Pearl Pratt Morgan, 82, former Salt Lake City resident, died Sunday at 11:45 p.m. at the residence of a daughter, Mrs. Ralph G. (Carol) Petersen, in Rigby, Idaho, after a lingering illness.
Mrs. Morgan was one of two surviving daughters of Orson Pratt, early church apostle and counselor to Brigham Young, second president of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. As a representative of the Orson Pratt family, she assisted in unveiling the “This Is the Place” Monument in 1947, which honored Utah’s pioneers.
Mrs. Morgan was born May 2, 1872, in Salt Lake City to Orson and Margaret Graham Pratt. She was married to James S. Morgan, Dec. 21, 1893, in Salt Lake LDS Temple. He later became superintendent of Murray Post Office, and died May 24, 1945.
With the exception of the past seven years spent in California and Idaho, Mrs. Morgan lived in Salt Lake City throughout her life.
She is survived by three sons and one daughter, Orson J. Morgan, La Mesa, Calif.; Harold P. Morgan, San Marino, Calif.; Ralph W. Morgan, Lawndale, Calif., and Mrs. Petersen, Rigby, Idaho; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren, and one sister, Mrs. Neva Pratt Shiverick, Salt Lake City.
