Meeting was held in the Bowery at 11 a.m., at which Ezra T. Benson, Parley P. Pratt, and Heber C. Kimball preached, and a collection made for the southern exploring company, amounting to $186.02. Young met in council with Presidents Heber C. Kimball and Willard Richards and several others, in relation to Elder Parley P. Pratt and a company of brethren going on an exploring expedition southward, to the outside of the Rim of the Basin. Parley P. Pratt and David Fullmer were blessed, preparatory to starting. By this time nearly all the brethren going on the southernly expedition, including Parley P. Pratt, had left the city. Pratt, President; William W. Phelps and David Fullmer, his Counselors; John Brown, captain of fifty; William W. Phelps, Topographical Engineer; Ephraim Green, Chief Gunner; Isaac C. height, Joseph Matthews, Joseph Horn, Ephraim Green and Josiah Arnold, captains of tens; Robert L. Campbell, clerk. The company had with them 12 wagons, 1 carriage, 24 yoke of cattle, 38 horses and mules, an odometer to measure distances, a brass field piece, small arms, 7 beeves, also 150 lbs. of flour to each man, besides crackers, bread, and meal.
