Home Missionary Operations
In order to carry out the missions for Utah Territory, as appointed by the General Conference, Elders P.P. Pratt, W. Woodruff, G.A. Smith, Erastus Snow, Joseph Young, Lorenzo D. Young, H.S. Eldredge and Jacob Gates met at the house of Elder P.P. Pratt, on Monday night, 15th inst., at 7 o’clock.
Meeting opened by prayer by Joseph Young. After which the following resolutions were unanimously adopted:–
Resolved, that Utah county be the First Missionary District, and that P.P. Pratt, O. Pratt, Henry Herriman, J.G. Howey, J.L. Heywood, Wm. Snow, and Aaron F. Farr be appointed the missionaries for that district, and that the first quarterly conference commence on Friday at 10 o’clock a.m., the 26th October at Provo city.
Resolved, that Joab, San Pete, and Millard counties compose the Second District, and that Erastus Snow, J.L. Heywood, J.F. Hutchinson, Jacob Gates, Dominic Carter, and D.D. Hunt be appointed the missionaries for that district, and that the first quarterly conference commence on Saturday at 10 o’clock a.m., the 3rd day of November, at Manti city.
Resolved, that Iron and Washington counties compose the Third District, and that Erastus Snow, T.D. Brown, Jacob Gates, J.B. Nobbs, J.L. Heywood, and George B. Wallace be appointed the missionaries for that district, and that the first quarterly conference commence on Friday at 1 o’clock p.m., the 9th day of November at Parowan city.
Resolved, that the county of Davis compose the Fourth Missionary District, and that P.P. Pratt, O. Pratt, W. Woodruff, Joseph Young, Z. Pusilpher, Henry Herriman, H.S. Eldredge, Lorenzo D. Young, and Gilbert Clements be appointed the missionaries for that district, and that the first quarterly conference commence on Saturday at 10 o’clock, a.m., the 20th day of October, at Farmington.
Resolved, that Weber county compose the Fifth District, and that P.P. Pratt, O. Pratt, W. Woodruff, Joseph Young, H.S. Eldredge, Joseph W. Johnson, Richard Cook, and Wm. Gibson be appointed the missionaries for that district, and that the first quarterly conference commence on Friday, at 10 o’clock, the 2nd of November, at Ogden city.
Resolved, that Salt Lake and Tooele counties compose the Sixth Missionary District, and that P.P. Pratt, O. Pratt, W. Woodruff, Joseph Young, Z. Pulsipher, Henry Herriman, H.S. Eldredge, Lorenzo D. Young, John Lyon, Levi Richards, Thomas Grover, and George Woodard be appointed the missionaries for that district, and that the first quarterly conference commence on Saturday at 10 o’clock a.m., the 10th of November at Tooele city.
Resolved, that all those missionaries who are appointed in their respective districts are expected to attend the conferences at the times and places as herein specified, and they are herby instructed to appoint other quarterly conferences in the principal places, and preaching meetings throughout the fields of labor assigned them, as shall be deemed necessary.
Resolved, that Elder W. Woodruff be appointed to draft the minutes of this meeting and present them to the editor of the Deseret News for publication.
