Brief Telegram From Portland Announces Her Sudden Demise

A telegram received from Portland gives the information that Hannah Pratt, wife of Nephi Pratt, president of the Northwestern States mission, died at the mission headquarters Tuesday afternoon at 5 o’clock, of asthma, and that President Pratt left Wednesday afternoon at 6 o’clock with the body. Mrs. Pratt was well known in Salt Lake and a host of friends will regret to learn of her death.

President Nephi Pratt is a son of Parley P. Pratt, and has been in charge of the Northwestern States mission for a number of years. He was here early this month attending the semi-annual conference.

The maiden name of Mrs. Pratt was Hannah Phillips, and she was born in Wales, about 61 years ago. She came to Utah when she was a very young girl, residing for some time at Fillmore and later in this city. For several years past Mrs. Pratt was with her husband in the Northwestern mission. Besides her husband she is survived by nine children and a number of grandchildren. The names of the children are: Mrs. May Morris, Spokane; Nephi Pratt, Jr., Spokane; William Parker Pratt, Salt Lake; Mrs. Anna Newton, Salt Lake; Bert Pratt, Spokane; Mrs. Florence Leaver, Salt Lake; Alice Frank and Joseph Pratt, Spokane. Most of these are expected to arrive here in time for the funeral.

The body of Mrs. Nephi Pratt will arrive in Ogden tonight from Portland, Oregon, en route to Salt Lake.  Mr. Pratt is president of the Oregon branch of the Mormon church in Oregon and a son of the late Parley P. Pratt.  The particulars of Mrs. Pratt’s death are not known by her relatives.

Death of Hanna Pratt

Many of Fillmore people will remember Mrs. Hanna Pratt, the beautiful singer, and wife of Nephi Pratt, who resided here a number of years ago, and of late has resided at Portland, Oregon, where her husband has his headquarters as president of the Northwestern Mission, from which place a telegram came to the relatives at Salt Lake City with the sad news that she had died on the 21st of asthma.

President Nephi Pratt is a son of Parley P. Pratt, and has been in charge of the Northwestern States Mission for a number of years.

The maiden name of Mrs. Pratt was Hannah Phillips, and she was born in Wales 61 years ago.  She came to Utah when she was a young girl.  Besides her husband she is survived by nine children and a number of grandchildren.  The funeral took place at Salt Lake City last Sunday.
