James S. Morgan
James Samuel Morgan, 78, 1157 Browning Ave., retired postal worker, died today at his home of causes incident to age.
He was born in Fairfield, Dec. 21, 1868, a son of Joseph R. and Mary Jane Turner Morgan. In 1871 his family moved to Salt Lake where he had lived for the last 75 years. He married Pearl Pratt in the Salt Lake Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Dec. 21, 1893. He entered the U.S. postal service in 1894 serving in this capacity until 1939 when he was retired. During the last nine years of his postal service he was superintendent of the Murray Branch Post Office.
Mr. Morgan was an active member of the Church, holding the office of high priest.
He is survived by his wife, Pearl Morgan, and four children: Mrs. Carol Petersen of Salt Lake; Harold P. and Ralph W. Morgan of Los Angeles, Calif., and Orson J. Morgan of Portland, Ore.; two sisters, Mrs. T.O. Gill and Mrs. James Rigby, and a brother, S.R. Morgan, all of Salt Lake; 13 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements are pending arrival of the sons from out of town.

Funeral services for James Samuel Morgan, 78, 1157 Browning Ave., Salt Lake, retired Murray postal superintendent, were conducted at noon today at 260 East South Temple St. Mr. Morgan died Monday at 5:30 p.m. at his home of causes incident to age.
Interment was in Salt Lake City Cemetery.

James Samuel Morgan, 77, former superintendent of the Murray branch post office, died of causes incident to age Monday at 5:30 a.m. at his residence, 11257 Browning ave.
A son of Joseph R. and Mary Jane Turner Morgan, he was born Dec. 21, 1860, in Fairfield, Utah county. In 1871, his family moved to Salt Lake City, and Mr. Morgan had resided here since.
Entering the United States Postal service in 1894, he remained with the service until 1939, when he retired. He was superintendent of the Murray branch office from 1930 to 1939.
Mr. Morgan was a member of the high priest’s quorum of the Emerson ward, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was a member of the Salt Lake Harmony Glee club for many years.
Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Pearl Pratt Morgan, whom he married Dec. 21, 1893, in the Salt Lake LDS temple; three sons and a daughter, Harold P. and Ralph W. Morgan, both of Los Angeles; Orson J. Morgan, Portland, and Mrs. Carol M. Peterson, Salt Lake City; two sisters and a brother, Mrs. T.G. Gill, Mrs. James Rigby and S.R. Morgan, all of Salt Lake City; also 13 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

James S. Morgan
James Samuel Morgan, 78, 1157 Browning ave., retired Murray postal superintendent, died Monday at 5:30 p.m. at his home of causes incident to age.
He was born Dec. 21, 1868, a son of Joseph R. and Mary Jane Turner Morgan, in Fairfield. Mr. Morgan came to Salt Lake City in 1871 where he attended public schools and the University of Deseret, now University of Utah. He had been employed as a salesman for the Cutler Bros. General Dry Goods Co. before becoming U.S. postal superintendent at Murray in 1931. Mr. Morgan retired from that position in 1939 and had resided in Salt Lake City since.
As active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he belonged to the old Harmony Glee club and helped in the organization of many church operettas.
He married Pearl Pratt in 1893. Mrs. Morgan is a daughter of Orson Pratt, early Mormon pioneer and Utah educator.
Survivors include his widow; three sons and a daughter, O.J. Morgan, Portland, Ore.; Harold P. Morgan, Los Angeles; Ralph W. Morgan, Hawthorne, Cal., and Mrs. Carol Petersen, Salt Lake City; a brother and two sisters, Roy Morgan, Mrs. Emma Gill and Mrs. Effie Rigby, all of Salt Lake City; 13 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday noon at 260 E. South Temple where friends may call until services. Burial will be in Salt Lake City cemetery.
