The Reunion Programs will honor the living grandchildren of the five Pratt brothers.  We extend a special invitation to those who can attend.  We are interested in obtaining all their names and addresses for our permanent records.  Please send their names and addresses including their parents name to the family organization by July 1st.

In order to secure more names for temple work, to located descendants and to computerize our family records David S. Murdock and Peggy Grow, the family genealogists, are checking the names of Jared Pratt’s descendants found in the 4-generation file at the Genealogical Department, in the Pratt file and in the book Pratt Pioneers of Utah by Arthur D. Coleman.  There are least 40,000 descendents of Jared Pratt who should be identified.  We strongly urge each family to identify your antecedents back to Jared Pratt.  To accomplish this, you should bring to the reunion the family group sheets of your families or send them to our President Dorothy G. Topham.  Please include the recently married couples of whom we have no records.

The family is also endeavoring to locate the ancestral lines of the wives of the five Pratt brothers.  If you are pursuing one of these lines please keep the Family Organization informed so we will not duplicate your work.  We appreciate your efforts on this important project.

Breck England, a teacher and researcher from Bountiful, Utah, is beginning work on a biography, to be entitled Savor of Life, will cover the life and thought of Orson Pratt and hopefully contribute significantly to the body of published Pratt family history.  Since the research will be done in the writer’s spare time, contributions to help underwrite the project would be most welcome.  Brother England plans to turn over all research and bibliography materials to the Pratt Family Association upon completion of the project.  Brother England is married to the former Valerie Goodrich, a great-great-granddaughter of Orson.  If any family members have historical information concerning Orson Pratt, please direct it to Assistant Historian Breck England, 463 East 550 South, Bountiful, Utah 84010.

Our Historian, R. Steven Pratt, delayed the publication of his book on Parley P. Pratt because he found new material that is being added.  We urge you to send us by July 1st information concerning original letters, diaries, pictures, artifacts, etc., that they also may be added to make this book as complete as possible.

We also urgently ask for like information on the other brothers Anson, William and Nelson, as we plan to write their histories later.

To date, a picture of Anson has not been available to us.  Please send us, at least, a copy of one.  We will be delighted.

Because of our continuing efforts in ancestral research, our extended efforts to locate descendants, and our support of publications being written by family historians, our funds are depleted.  We need your dues of $5.00 per family and additional contributions.  These are I.R.S. tax deductible and checks should be made payable to the Jared Pratt Family Association.  Many volunteer hours have been contributed for which we are deeply grateful.  Many more volunteers are needed to expedite the projects.  You do not need to be either a trained genealogist or typist to be of great help.  Please contact President Dorothy Topham.

Due to the continuing demand for the important Family Group Sheets, Histories and charts prepared and offered the past ten years, they will again be available at the Reunion or by mail, as follows:

1967 packet: Jared and Charity Dickinson Pratt, Jared and Polly Carpenter Pratt, Obadiah Pratt, Samuel Dickinson, Elnathan Griffith, Ebenezer Tolls and Rev. “Our Royal Lineage” Chart.  This traces our ancestral line through Charity Dickinson, to three prominent European kings – Alfred the Great (848), Charlemagne (742), and William the Conqueror (1024), and beyond, to the year 519 A.D.  It is 15 x 23 and also contains in color, ancestral Coats of Arms. $2.25.

1973 packet: contains several histories and Family Group Sheets titled “Some of the Ancestors of Jared Pratt”. $2.00

1976 packet: contains three new Post Family Group Sheets. $.50

Pamphlet: “Eleanor McLean and the Murder of Parley P. Pratt”, R. Steven Pratt. $1.00

Glossy prints of the pedigree pictures on the letterhead are available for $.50 for each set.  If ordered with other packets the cost is only $.25.

We are also anxious to get the names and addresses of any descendants who are not receiving our annual letter.  Please check your own families.  If an identification card is enclosed please return it to President Dorothy Topham.

Participate with us, express your ideas, and enjoy the Pratt Family spirit.  Circle your calendar now and “Let Us Get Acquainted” at the 1977 ‘Family Reunion’.

Sincerely,

Dorothy G. Topham
President
