Leader is Mourned
Many Miss Guiding Spirit of Mary Pratt Young

Mary Pratt Young died at Salt Lake City on Oct. 25, 1911. She was the daughter of the late Parley P. and Mary Wood Pratt and was born Sept. 14, 1852 at Salt Lake City.

She was married to Royal B. Young on Sept. 2, 1872 and has lived in Forest Dale for the last 21 years. Her family numbers eight children all of whom, with her husband, survive her. They are as follows: Royal P. Young, Mrs. Louis H. Simms, Mrs. Lester O. Naylor, Mrs. Walter J. Lewis, Mrs. Ernest R. Woolley, Mary E., Harriet and Parley Young.

She was a faithful and devoted wife, a loving and tender mother and an earnest worker in the Church organizations. For many years she was first counselor to President Mary T. Freeze, of the Young Ladies’ Mutual Improvement association in the old Salt Lake stake of Zion, and she is held in loving remembrance by all of the Mutual workers of that stake.

When the Granite stake was organized she was chosen first counselor to President Emma S. Woodruff, of the stake Relief society board, which position Sister Young held until her death. She has endeared herself to all the officers and members of the stake by her gentle dignity, her executive ability, her wise counsel, her pure and virtuous life and her faithful testimony of the divine mission of the Prophet Joseph Smith and the truths of the everlasting gospel. To know her was indeed to love her and many shall rise up and call her blessed.

She has been in delicate health for over two years, suffering from anemia and general breakdown. She spent several months in California last winter and returned home in June feeling much better. Early in September she was taken ill again, and gradually became weaker until the end came on Oct. 25 at 2 p.m. The funeral will be held on Sunday, Oct. 29 from the Forest Dale meetinghouse at 1 p.m. All friends are invited to attend. Interment in city cemetery.
