The people, who have attended the meetings held, during the past two days, in the Tabernacles in this city, will be ready to admit that they have had a feast of good things in the remarks of the speakers.  These are the first special meetings of the kind that have ever been held here, but we think we echo the general sentiment of those who attended them when we say, we hope they will not be the last….

Yesterday the meetings were held in the New Tabernacle.  In the morning the attendance was good, but in that enormous structure the congregation presented a slim appearance.

The first speaker was Elder Orson Pratt, who, for about an hour addressed the people in a most edifying manner.  He was followed by Elders Albert Carrington and Joseph F. Elder Orson Pratt delivered a powerful and elaborate discourse on the restoration of the gospel in these days and its effects, as illustrated in the work accomplished by the Latter-day Saints, and the judgments of God which would be poured out upon those who rejected the message of salvation.  He quoted a large number of prophecies in the course of his address, showing their literal fulfilment.  He showed in a lucid manner how the saving power of the gospel reached the dead who had departed from the earth without a knowledge of its principles, and also treated upon the eternal nature of marriage.  It would be impossible to give a definite idea of the discourse in a short synopsis.  It was reported in full for publication.

The speaker dwelt elaborately and with logical perspicuity and force, upon the religious faith and practices of the Latter-day Saints, more particularly upon the nature and character of their marital institutions, showing them to be both scriptural and reasonable.

Tooele Stake Conference.

Elder Orson Pratt said he was glad to be once more among the Saints in Tooele.  Since he was here last, he had performed a short mission to Europe.  In regard to the statistical report, he believed it was as correct as could be got under the circumstances, but in future some things would have to be amended.  Was glad to hear the good reports from the Bishops, hoped a progressive improvement would continue.

Quarterly Conference.

The Quarterly Conference of the Priesthood of the Salt Lake Stake of Zion commenced, pursuant to adjournment, in the Fourteenth Ward Assembly Rooms, on Saturday, Jan. 5th, 1878, at 10 a.m….

Sunday, Jan. 6th.

Elder Orson Pratt spoke on the blessings and powers that were promised on a faithful performance of the duties of the Priesthood; attributed the lack of many of these blessings to the unworthiness of those who hold the Priesthood.  The Priesthood is the delegated power of Heaven and can only be used is obedience to the will of God.

At the Tabernacle.

The congregation at the Tabernacle, yesterday afternoon, was highly edified by an excellent discourse from Elder Orson Pratt.  With the good attention manifested by the audience, generally, we regret to be compelled to mention some improprieties that were painfully noticeable.  A number of young people were observed to leave the building during the service, thus showing the evidences of bad education in this respect.  Persons who cannot remain in the house of God during the little season that Sabbath services are being performed, would much better remain at home, for by taking the latter course they would not only spare others great annoyance, but would cease to make themselves the objects of the pity and contempt that their actions inspire.

Elder Orson Pratt preached a very interesting discourse in the Tabernacle, yesterday afternoon, upon the subject of the history of the Church.  The congregation, though small, was highly interested and listened with profound attention.  The approach of cold weather renders it necessary to discontinue the meetings in the Tabernacle for the winter season.

Funeral of David Fullmer.

The funeral of the late Elder David Fullmer was held this afternoon in the Sixth Ward Meeting House.  The assembly was addressed, consecutively, by Elder Orson Pratt, Bishop Edward Hunter, Bishop L.W. Hardy, and Bishop W.H. Hickenlooper, of the 6th Ward.  The remarks were instructive and consoling, and of a character naturally suggested by the long and eventful life of the departed veteran, and the circumstances attending the demise.

Cache Valley Stake Conference.

Elder Orson Pratt read from the Book of Jacob, in the Book of Mormon, which treated upon the wild and natural fruit, remarking that in the quotation read we had a plain prediction concerning us and the great work of God in which we are engaged.  There may be persons among us who think that God had forsaken us, but a great improvement had taken place among the Saints, and if the Saints had not lived up to the perfect law, their aim and object ought to be to do so.  He continued upon many important and interesting topics relative to the more advanced principles of the Gospel, in connection with the redemption of Zion.
