Birthday Party
Yesterday a number of the personal friends of Mrs. Marian R. Pratt, wife of Apostle Orson Pratt, assembled at her residence in the Nineteenth Ward to commemorate her fiftieth birthday. President Taylor, Apostles O. Pratt and Joseph F. Smith and Counselor D.H. Wells were present, as well as many ladies and gentlemen well known in the community. During the early part of the evening some conversed in the parlors while others enjoyed themselves on the fine lawn and spacious croquet ground, and later on, when a number of young ladies and gentlemen were added to the party, music, singing, recitations, readings, etc., followed each other in pleasing variety, and made up a most excellent entertainment. Fifty persons or more sat down to an elegant repast, served up in appetizing style, the tastefully arranged tables being adorned with choice bouquets. Bros. John Lyon and D.J. Ross each read a poem of his own composition in honor of Mrs. Pratt’s jubilee, and young and old united in kind wishes and fervent blessings on the amiable lady in whose honor the party was given. Prof. Thomas’ new theatrical orchestra serenaded the party, playing some brilliant selections in splendid style. The company dispersed shortly before midnight, having spent a very enjoyable time, to be remembered we hope with pleasure by Mrs. Pratt as well as by her guests in many, many prosperous years to come.

Fiftieth Birthday
On Monday, Mrs. M. Pratt, wife of Hon. Orson Pratt, attained her fiftieth birthday, which was celebrated in a manner becoming the event. In the afternoon, at the invitation of the lady and her husband, there assembled quite a large party of ladies and gentlemen. Among them were President John Taylor, several of the twelve apostles, General D.H. Wells, and a number of the fairer sex who are prominently known through the territory. In the evening a party of young ladies and gentlemen assembled, and with those already pleasant, blending the mature with the young, a most enjoyable evening was spent, and all retired wishing that the lady of the house may have many years added to her well-spent life.
