Recent Deaths
Nebeker, Ashton—At Alamo, Lincoln county, Nev., Aug. 29, Ashton Nebeker died of the ills incident to old age. He was born Sept. 23, 1843, at Dunville, Ill., and was the son of John and Lourent Nebeker. He had suffered from dropsy for some time past. He was a faithful member of the Church from infancy, and passed through the trials and hardships of pioneer life. He came to Utah with President John Taylor’s company in 1847, and lived in Salt Lake with his parents for a number of years. With Jacob Hamblin he filled a mission among the Moqui Indians in Arizona when he was 17 years of age. He was also called to assist in developing Washington county, Utah. He married Miss Lucy Pratt, daughter of Orson and Adelia Pratt, in 1864, and settled in Toquerville. He held many important positions there, religious and political. He was a generous citizen and trustworthy friend. The funeral services were held in Alamo hall on Sept. 1, at 12 o’clock, and were attended by many relatives and friends. The speakers were Elders R.J. Pace, Joseph Millett, Jr., and James L. Allen. All spoke in high terms of the life of the deceased. He leaves nine children, all grown.
