It was extremely hot this afternoon, and I suffered considerably with the heat, and therefore did not attempt to work. In the evening went to the Park surrounding the State House, and sat down for a few moments, when some ladies came along and took a seat just by me. I entered into some conversation with them and found the one who did the talking pretended to be a masauyeist and a doctor. She seemed very pleasant, and invited me to her office.

Elder Quibell came along shortly and we went together to the Post Office.

I received a letter from Sadie, at which I greatly rejoiced

Olsen Block:

Recieved letter from Sadie. Held meeting in elders head quarters. Appointed Elder Hunter to come from Anaconda Conference to Butte and labor there with Elder Brown. Appointed Elders Robison and Johnson to go into the country and labor.

Elder John M. Brown had been hurt from time to time by remarks of elder Johnson. Elder Johnson now felt that elder Brown had been telling these matters to me, and that because of these things I had decided to send him into the country. I acknowledged that Elder Brown had told me some things showing that they were not in harmony with each other, and that was the very reason I was sepperating them by sending him (Brother Johnson) into the country. He seemed to feel very badly, and could not apparently be reconciled.

At 12:30 I took train to Anaconda. Arrived there at 1:20. Visited with brother Short and Sister York. Took supper with them and and spent the evening. Sister York has been baptized by brother Short, but so far refuses to be confirmed.

Portland, Sunday, Nov. 27th 1904

This day was one that we had long looked forward to, as Prest. Jos. E. Robinson had appointed this time to hold conference, and to turn the Oregon part of his mission over to me.

The elders, Saints and all concerned had been notified by Conference Prest. Martell of this conference. It had been published in the daily papers and Saints came from Hood River and other points with the full expection of having president Robinson with us.

Elder Martell had been instructed to this effect weeks before, by letter from Pres. Robinson. But only by letter from Pres. Robinson to me, recieved Saturday, was we notified to the contrary, and it then being too late to undo what had been done we went along with the programme without him as best we could. The Lord did not forsake us, and we had three excellent meetings. at the one in the afternoon I spoke about 45 minutes with fair liberty. Enjoyed it very much, also one of the most excellent Testimony meetings that could be. Several little Children testifying in a most delightful manner.

Some got up two at a time and the spirit of prophecy was manifest and it seemed as though the veil between us and the heavens was very thin. My little daughter Olive, 13 years old, opperated upon by a power she could not resist arose and bore a testimony, most beautiful to listen to, although she never had done such a thing before in her life. My soul in this meeting was filled with unnticable joy and some of the Saints wept for joy, and at the close of it the saints almost refused to depart to their houses, and seperate from each other.

This Sabath opened up clear and cold. At 10 a.m. Went with the brethren to meeting. Very few present. After Singing and prayer Apostle Smith called upon me to spe make the opening speech. I did so, speaking upon the thraldom of sin, the inconcistency of it, and the necessity of overcoming it. I spoke about 30 minutes and had liberty, the paints giving me the closest attention. Elder Geo. A. Smith spoke after me, and after him Joseph W. McMurren both continuing on the word of wisdom.

At 2 p.m., we went to our next service. When Apostle Smith called upon Ezra J. Merrill to report his branch. He was followed by Elder Jos. W. McMurren, who preached a splendid discourse upon the first principles of the gospel.

At 7.30 p.m. we convened in our thired and last meeting, when the time was occupied by Elders Smith and McMurren. the former taking up most of the time. These meetings were well attended and strangers were present in considerable numbers, And the spirit of God bore witness of the truth of “Mormonism”

At 6:15 the presidency of the Branch came together and met with

the presidency <visiting> brethren and were instructed in the duties of their calling until 7.30. and at near 10 they came together again and some ill feelings made right, and those brethren ordained high priests, and set apart for their positions in the following Order. Lorenzo John Haddock <1st counsellor>, and Ezra J. Merrill <President> by Apostol Geo. A. Smith, and Charles Jacobson <2nd counsellor> by myself. The spirit and power of revelation was poured out upon Apostle Smith in his teaching to us in a remarkable manner.

We retired home thankful to the Lord for his goodness. All of us stronger and more determined to serve the Lord than before.
