Election was held for St. George City resulting as follows: Angus M. Cannon, Mayor. Easton Kelsey and Benjamin Pendleton, Aldermen. Jacob Gates, Walter E. Dodge, Orson Pratt Jun., Councilors. The first meeting of the City Council of St. George City convened on the evening of election day. All the Council were present, and appointed James G. Bleak as City Recorder. [Journal History of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Apr. 7, 1862, 11] [transcribed and proofread by David Grow, May 2006] ******* Pursuant to appointment, the conference of the “Southern Utah Mission” was held at St. George on Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 15 and 16, 1862. President Orson Pratt and Erastus Snow presiding. After singing, Apostle Erastus Snow offered prayer. After further singing, Apostle Orson Pratt presented the following business to the Conference. The organization of a High Council; the appointment of Bishops and the calling of missionaries to the Moqui Indians. The following were presented by vote of those present: John Nebeker, President; Marius Ensign; Franklin B. Woolley; Orson Pratt Jun.; James G. Bleak; David H. Cannon; Franklin W. Young; Walter E. Dodge; Lysander Dayton; John M. Moody; Albert P. Tyler and John Vance, Jr….
